Overview
A passport serves as a travel document issued to Singapore Citizens (SCs) for the purpose of travelling abroad.
You can apply online if:
- It is your first time applying for a passport
- Your passport is running out of pages
- Your passport has expired or is expiring within 9 months
- Your passport is lost or damaged
Application Process
- Important: Please ensure your photograph meets our requirements to avoid delays in your applications. We will notify you via post/email if you need to submit a new photo.
- Refer to Photo Guidelines for information on photo requirements before starting the application.
Documents Required
You will need the following documents to complete your passport application. Please have them ready before you apply:
- A passport-sized, digital, colour photograph taken within the last 3 months
The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA)'s passport photo requirements are based on specifications by the International Standards Organisation and the International Civil Aviation Organisation.

Procedure
For SCs Residing in Singapore
Log in with your Singpass to complete the online application form.

Select your preferred language (English, Chinese, Malay or Tamil) for the video guides from the playlist menu at the top of the video screen.
For SCs Residing Overseas
Fees
A S$70 fee is payable if you apply online, by post, or through the deposit box at ICA Services Centre. An S$80 fee is payable for application submitted over counter at ICA Services Centre or at Singapore Overseas Mission.
If your passport is lost or damaged, you will need to pay the passport fee stated above, as well as the following non-refundable penalty fees to replace it:
- S$50 for the first replacement
- S$100 for subsequent replacements
- Visa or MasterCard credit/debit card
- American Express (AMEX) credit card
- Internet Direct Debit (DBS/POSB, OCBC, UOB and Standard Chartered Bank Internet Banking accounts in Singapore)
- PayNow
From 1 January 2020, newborn SCs will enjoy a waiver of the first passport application fee if:
- The application is submitted on or before the child's first birthday
- The application is submitted via MylCA portal
Processing Time
Local
The processing time for a passport is around 1 to 2 weeks upon ICA's receipt of the application. The processing time may be up to 4 weeks if your photograph does not meet the requirements or if your application involves changes to your principal name and/or surname.
You will be notified of the outcome by post or email.Overseas
The processing time for a passport is around 4 to 6 weeks upon ICA's receipt of the application, provided you have submitted all the required documents. The processing time will be longer if your photograph does not meet the requirements.
You will be notified of the outcome by email. For all successful applications, the passport will be sent to the selected Singapore Overseas Mission.

Passport Validity
From 1 Oct 2021, Singapore passports issued for citizens aged 16 and above are valid for 10 years.
For citizens aged below 16, the passport validity is 5 years. For the 5-year passports, the remaining validity from the previous passport, up to a maximum of 9 months, may be carried over to the renewed passport.
